United Kingdom has many houses with small-size bathrooms and to select tiles for a small bathroom is very different from selecting tiles for a regular size bathroom. Nowadays the tiles market is moving towards big size tiles, whether you talk about wall or floor people wants to use bigger sizes and tile shops are also promoting them due to wider availability and comfort in deliveries. The most running size for the bathroom in today’s time is 60 x 120 cm porcelain tiles. When this size was introduced, it was widely used in floor applications only but now it is widely used in bathrooms compare to floors.
While it is the most running size in the market there are many advantages you can see while purchasing this size. Like you can find many design options and colour options in this size, many finish options, many surface options etc. And along with all these advantages the major thing is that they are cheaper then compared to any other sizes available in the market. 60x120 cm porcelain tiles acquire almost 50% of the overall tile market in all the countries.
So, let’s see you want to use this tile, but you are worried that whether this tile look good in your bathroom or not because of the smaller size of the bathroom. Sometimes your tiler also suggests you go for the smaller size tiles because the bathroom size is not suitable for the bigger size.
Let me provide you some ideas where you can use this bigger size tile in your smaller size bathrooms with confidence. First, you must select the right colour of the tile when you want to use 60x120 cm size in smaller size bathrooms which are not bigger then 4x6 feet. Always select light colours like light beige, light grey, white with less visible marble figures, soft earthy colour tones or even you can try soft pastel colours.
The second thing to keep in mind is never mix two colours in your bathroom. It will make the bathroom space busier and eventually it will look smaller in size. Instead of that use the same colour highlighter with punch effect on it. If possible, use the liner punch at the level of your eyesight, approximately at the height of 4 to 6 feet from the floor. With this combination you can also select the 60x60 cm tiles if your space is not allowing you to use the 60x120 cm tiles.
The second option is to use some vibrant and dark colours with very small-size tiles, often called subway tiles. I know I am contradicting my previous statement that use light and soft colour in the smaller size bathrooms. But here I am suggesting darker shades with a major change in the size of the tile when you are using dark colours like black, dark grey, deep blue or bottle green colour for your bathroom. Keep the finish of the tile matt of soft matt and do not use glossy tile in subway sizes as well. Glossy finish is more popular in subway tiles, but we suggest them only for the kitchen application and not for the bathroom application.
Lastly, the bathroom Accessories place a major role in smaller size bathrooms. These are the things which will provide the luxurious look to your bathroom. Try to use the slightly contrast bathroom accessories from your tiles and do not select glossy finish in the bathroom accessories as well. Try to use the matt finish accessories. Always use the LED mirrors with back lighting. It will give a proper look to your bathroom.
